Why Western?
When I applied to Western, it was a safety school for me. I visited the school, and liked it even though I was originally planning to leave the state. What I did not know was that I could achieve success just a couple hours from home, with an institution like Western having my back, supporting me, and giving me the resources I need. Western has helped me realize what is important to me academically, and it has made me look at myself and examine what I want to achieve. Western is delivering more than I ever expected. Coming to WWU is a choice I won’t ever regret. I don’t see myself at any other school.
Motivated to Succeed
My mother’s past motivates me to work hard to succeed. I don’t want to face the troubles that my mother faced when she came to America, without an education and without help. As a single mother, she faced so many obstacles in her life that whenever I think of them, I get saddened because with education, things could’ve been so much better for her. I want to make sure that when I am older, I can help my mother by offering her a shoulder to lean on. I try my best now, but I know that I can do more with an education.
Looking to the Past
History is an area that always gets me excited, I love learning about a country’s development, the people, the culture, and the tradition. The past is something I have always been interested in because it is what today and the future are built on. I get excited about different countries, but mostly African, and Middle Eastern countries. This interest in history sets the basis for why I am interested in studying International Business.
Developing Leaders
My involvement in the Leadership VIP program has been amazing. I’ve made great friends who have become my closest confidants. The staff involved with the program are incredible; they are genuine in their giving. I feel challenged because it puts pressure on me; but good pressure that makes me want to succeed even more. This opportunity is nothing to be taken for granted; the Leadership VIP is a program I know will impact my life and career.
Outside the Classroom
Most of the time, I love to surround myself with close friends that I’ve made here at Western. What we do together doesn’t matter, as long as I have the time to relax and laugh and dance. In Bellingham, I like to shop, eat out, and catch movies with my sister who also attends WWU.
