Why Western?

When I stepped foot on campus as a high school senior, I knew what I wanted in a college: good people, welcoming environment, and a wide range of academics to choose from. Western exhibits all of these traits; I discovered this from the first days in the classroom. The location is perfect too; I wanted to be close enough that I could go home occasionally, but far enough away to have my independance.

Expect the Unexpected

I really did not know what to expect when it came to college life. I've watched movies, heard stories and I had my illusions. But I can definitely say that my experience at Western has been different from anything I could have imagined. I've made some of the closest friends I will ever have; found new interests by being in Bellingham and the surrounding areas; and have challenged myself in and outside of the classroom.

Influential Professor

One professor that has particularly played a role in my academics would be Jen Lois, a professor in the Sociology department. Her lectures have pushed me to think about society's impact on individuals' roles within our culture. She has helped me decide that Sociology is field that I would like to study further in the future.

Life in Bellingham

I love that Bellingham has just about anything for anyone. If you want to enjoy the outdoors, that's definitely an option. The mall anyone? That's there too. Or just walking around downtown is always fun.

After Western

My post-graduation plan is to join the Peace Corps. After serving my two years, I plan to head towards the Seattle area to do advertising for non-profit organizations.
