Why Western?

I initially visited Western because I heard of the prestige of the Psychology program, but it was not until I actually stepped foot on campus (during a horrendous storm) that I realized I would be coming to Western. The scenery, school, and the overall feeling of the campus made my decision complete.

Influential Professors

There have been many professors that have greatly helped me on my journey. Dr. Ira Hyman of the Psychology Department is wonderful, and one of the first professors I had when I came to Western. He is approachable, helpful, and always willing to talk. The second professor that has helped me immensely is Dr. Joanne DeMark, who is part of the Western Leadership Advantage program. Through her class and guidance, I have become a better person than I was when I first arrived.

A New Family

One of my favorite memories at Western is when I first attended the Latino Student Union and MEChA meetings. In those meetings, I found my home away from home and my family at Western.

Sharing Culture

Two experiences at Western that really stand out in my mind are the Latino Student Union’s annual Heritage Dinner, and MEChA’s annual “Ridin’ Low in the 3-6-0” low rider show. These were positive experiences because I got to see the community of Western, as well as the surrounding communities, come together showing appreciation for my culture which, to me, means a lot.

Outside the Classroom

I love promoting diversity on Western’s campus. I also enjoy being involved on campus doing what I can to help others. I am an avid bike rider (weather permitting), and I enjoy going to the gym when I can. Other than that, I love being with my friends, going on walks, or going to get food at 3 in the morning.

Life in Bellingham

I love Bellingham for what it is: a beautiful place with so many things to do outside. I absolutely love to go hiking off of Chuckanut Drive, as well as biking all over Bellingham.

After Western

After I graduate, I plan on going one of two routes. I plan to either go into an MBA program or go straight into law school and finish my JD and MBA simultaneously.
