General University Requirements (For non-DTA applicants who need to fulfill Western's GUR)

Note: Beginning fall quarter 2005, Western will implement the GUR program outlined below. For information on the GUR program in effect through summer quarter 2005, please refer to page 40 of the General Catalog.

DTA Associate Degrees:

  • Associate of Arts, earned at South Puget Sound Community College after 1983.

Community college applicants who transfer directly to Western with an associate degree or who otherwise are unable to progress at the community college are given priority admissions consideration. Students who transfer to Western without the above-listed degree must satisfy Western's General University Requirements, or GUR. Below is a list of courses that fulfill Western's GUR. Students should select courses that fulfill both GUR and lower division requirements for their intended major whenever possible. The GUR worksheet can be a helpful tool in determining your progress toward fulfilling Western's GUR.

Note: All transfer courses should be completed on a lettered or numeric grading scale, not pass/fail. Writing 101 must be completed with a grade of C- or better.

Quantitative & Symbolic Reasoning - 1-2 courses

Complete one of the following options:

  4. Successful completion of WWU Math 107 & SPSCC's Philosophy 120

Science - Three (3) Courses

The science requirement may be satisfied by choosing from one of the two following options: Complete a three-quarter sequence in one field from Option I below OR complete three courses in distribution from Option II below.

  1. Complete one of the three quarter sequences from the following area:

    • Chemistry 140, 150, 160
    • Physics 114, 115, 116 OR Physics w/ Calculus 201, 202, 203
  2. Complete both A and B below.
    1. One course from two of the four following areas:

    2. Complete one additional course from a third area in Section A (above) or from the following list:

Transferable Course List (For DTA Applicants)

DTA Associate Degree:

  • Associate of Arts, earned at South Puget Sound Community College after 1983.

As an alternative to completing General University Requirements (GUR) at Western, students may complete the above-listed community college DTA degree. Completing the DTA is generally the most efficient route for community college transfer students. To substitute fully for Western's GUR, the DTA degree must include 90 credits, 75 of which must be on the following list of transferable courses. Students should select courses that fulfill both DTA degree requirements and lower division requirements for their intended major whenever possible. Community college applicants who transfer directly to Western with an associate degree or who otherwise are unable to progress at the community college are given priority admissions consideration.

Note to Former Western Students

Students who left in good standing and who have been gone less than a calendar year receive Admissions priority. Former students may use the DTA Associate Degree for Western GUR completion only if they have fewer than 45 Western credits completed (or less than one calendar year in attendance at Western).
