Multicultural Achievement Program
Diversity at Western
Western Washington University supports the belief that diversity is an important part of a quality education. By dedicating ourselves to a broad range of human experiences and perspectives on Western's campus, we enlarge our capacity for learning and supporting others in our society. In honor of this commitment, we have created the Multicultural Achievement Program (MAP) Scholarship.
About the MAP Scholarship
The MAP Scholarship is awarded each quarter to freshman and transfer students whose application for admission demonstrates an ongoing commitment to multiculturalism and/or diversity. Recipients of the MAP Scholarship receive a tuition reduction of $2,000 to $3,000 for their first year, and some awards are renewable. More than 200 MAP Scholarships are awarded each year.
How to Apply
Students who wish to be considered for the MAP Scholarship must indicate an interest on their application for admission by checking the appropriate box. Interested students are encouraged to use their essay to demonstrate how theyare actively promoting multiculturalism or intercultural understanding in their school or community, and their commitment to doing the same at Western. Students who are unable to incorporate this in their essay are welcome to attach an additional written statement for consideration. Recommended 300-500 words.
MAP Scholarship review will consider:
- unique life perspective
- living, working or studying abroad
- leadership experience (e.g., in school, community, family or other)
- extracurricular activities and community service
- demonstrated desire to help others understand multiculturalism and diversity
- demonstrated commitment towards improving multiculturalism and diversity in our society
The deadline for MAP Scholarship consideration is the same as the Western application deadline for admission.
Note: Receiving the MAP Scholarship is dependent on being admitted to and enrolling at Western as a full-time student.
