Diversity at Western:
Western Washington University supports the belief that diversity is an important part of a quality education. By dedicating ourselves to a broad range of human experiences and perspectives on Western's campus, we enlarge our capacity for learning and supporting others in our society. In honor of this commitment, we have created the Multicultural Achievement Program (MAP) scholarship.
About the WWU MAP Scholarship:
WWU MAP scholarships range from $500 to $2,000 and are available to incoming freshmen and transfer students who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to multiculturalism and diversity. More than 200 WWU MAP scholarships are awarded each year.
How to Apply:
Students indicate an interest in the WWU MAP scholarship on Western's Undergraduate Application for Admission and are encouraged to respond to the following application question:
Tell us how culture - either your own or your experience with others - has affected your outlook on the world. How have you contributed to a multicultural community and/or how will you promote multiculturalism at Western or in your career?
WWU MAP scholarship review will consider:
- unique life perspective
- living, working, or studying abroad
- leadership experience (e.g., in school, community, family, or other)
- extracurricular activities and community service
- demonstrated desire to help others understand multiculturalism and diversity
- demonstrated commitment towards improving multiculturalism and diversity in our society
Students can include the WWU MAP essay with Western Washington University's online or paper applications.
The deadline for WWU MAP scholarship consideration is the same date as the application deadline for admission. Visit the freshman or transfer website for the appropriate deadline.
Note: Receiving the WWU MAP scholarship is dependent on being admitted to and enrolling at Western as a full-time student.
