Advancing Excellence and Equity in Science (AEES)

The Advancing Excellence and Equity in Science (AEES) Program helps students, especially first-generation students, underrepresented minorities, and women, succeed in the natural sciences. Up to 72 incoming first-year and 24 incoming transfer students participate in this program each year.

Chemistry Distinguished Scholars

The Chemistry Distinguished Scholars Program offers an opportunity to up to 24 incoming first-year students each year. The program places students into groups that are guaranteed enrollment in introductory courses, including Honors General Chemistry. These courses offer a smaller, more inclusive learning environment, and provide a gateway to genuine research experiences in the Chemistry Department.

College of Business and Economics (CBE) Distinguished Scholars

The College of Business and Economics (CBE) Distinguished Scholars Program is open to academically successful students who are interested in business and economics. Approximately 20-25 students are selected each year.

The Computer Science Distinguished Scholars program is for students who intend to study computer science or data science at Western. The program provides first-year students with access to introductory courses and guaranteed admission to their major, contingent on good academic standing.

Future Woodring Scholars

Western's Woodring College of Education is committed to transformational change that supports increased understanding and respect for differences and similarities among people and cultures. The Future Woodring Scholars program is part of Woodring's commitment to this change. This program allows students to explore teacher education and human services programs and professions early in their Western experience while also gaining a network of academic and social support. Approximately 30 scholars are invited to participate each year.

Marine Science Distinguished Scholars

Western’s Marine Science Distinguished Scholars Program is a distinctive experience for 21 entering first-year students. These scholars learn about contemporary environmental issues facing our marine and coastal environments. They also gain experience, professional development skills, and exposure to scientific research and data collection.

Multicultural Achievement Program (MAP) Distinguished Scholars

The Multicultural Achievement Program (MAP) Distinguished Scholars is comprised of students who have distinguished themselves through outstanding leadership within their community and have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to access, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The scholars will have special opportunities to interact with Ethnic Student Center staff and multicultural student clubs  with peer mentoring from current WWU students.
