Why I chose Western

I chose Western because I felt at home when I toured here. When deciding where to go for college, I was very concerned about whether I would find a school that I would fit into. After touring several colleges, I finally toured Western and immediately felt a connection. While talking with the tour guides and observing student life, I got a sense of compassion, drive, and kindness among the student population. Alongside that, I truly fell in love with the natural scenery surrounding campus. To me, going to college would be the start of a new chapter in my life, and I decided that Western was the best starting point for this next stage of my life.

An experience or class at Western that made me go "Wow!"

An experience that made me say "wow," here at Western was a general university requirement course called Introduction to Global Studies. While this course was not required for my major, I enjoyed how the professor engaged with the class and presented the material in a way that made students think critically. GUR courses can help broaden your perspective outside your intended major and be super fun!

My advice for incoming or prospective students

One piece of advice to incoming students is to stay curious. Before I came to Western, I was very worried about fitting in and finding a community I could relate to. However, I made a promise to be open to new experiences and branch out of my comfort zone, which made a difference. I joined a new sport, rowing, and clubs on campus, which opened the doors to new friends and experiences.
