Why I chose Western.
When I began my college search, I did not know a lot about what to look for. I am a first generation college student so the whole 'college search' was a bit overwhelming. It wasn't until I toured Western that I finally felt at ease about everything. Western made me feel like an individual, rather than just another number in the student body. There were so many ways to get involved and so many resources that really made me feel as if Western could be my home away from home.
What I like most about Bellingham.
I love the variety of food options that are here! There really is a little of everything and it's always great to return to these local businesses and put a name to a face. Bellingham's scenery always amazes me and the sunsets here are so beautiful. There are great places to go hiking and kayaking, Bellingham is truly the whole package.
My advice for incoming or prospective students.
Be genuine and get involved! Getting out of your comfort zone is important and it's a great way to meet others! Take a class in a subject that you've never learned about, or join a club! You never know if that class is something you would want to major or minor in, and you can also meet new people through clubs!
What I like most about Western.
I love how inclusive Western is. There are so many different ways to build community and make friends. Professors and instructors here really care about you as an individual, and I love that I've been able to make connections with my professors so I can be even more successful in my academics. Western's events and clubs make it easy to get involved, and I find myself participating in events that I would have never pictured myself doing.
