Why I chose Western
I chose to go to Western because of the vast number of majors to choose from! This was important to me, because I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to do and wanted to have a lot of options. As well as that, I love the Western campus. It is so green, and the buildings are all so beautiful!
Why I chose my major
My decision on what major to choose was a bit complicated. I started off my college career in nursing, but then I quickly switched to education when I realized I don't like being in hospitals! A year of education classes and an amazing professor helped me decide that I wanted to do something I loved, rather than something that was easy or made a lot of money. I have always loved history and archaeology, so I knew I wanted to go into anthropology. After taking a few anthropology classes, I knew archaeology was the choice for me. This past year I declared my second major, Canadian American Studies. I did this because I want my area of expertise to be the Pacific Northwest. Also, the Canadian American Studies department is super small and there are lots of opportunities you wouldn't get in some of the more mainstream majors. I love it!
What I ultimately hope my education helps me achieve
Ultimately, I am hoping to go to graduate school to get my master's degree in archaeology. My dream is to then go on to get my Ph.D. and become a professor!
