What I like most about Bellingham
I love that Bellingham has a wide variety of things to do! There are so many walks, hikes, and places to explore. Additionally, there are plenty of music events and venues. There are so many wonderful food spots here in Bellingham, and my favorites are Senor Lopez and Avelino Coffeehouse. I love to explore downtown, as well as taking the bus to Fairhaven. Bellingham is also nice because of its proximity to Seattle and Canada, which makes for fun weekend trips.
What I like most about Western
I love that Western has an Arboretum that you can walk into and explore anytime! I also like how the campus is set up; it is a good size. There are a wide variety of classes, and I love all the history classes I have taken for my major. I really like the events that Western puts on, including my favorite events when they bring in puppies and rabbits for finals week. I enjoyed living on the Ridge my first year because it is such a nice little community. I made a lot of friends, and some are my current roommates!
My advice for incoming or prospective students
Try new things, go to events, and explore the campus and the city! I would also recommend trying to talk to people right away or attending campus social events. Everyone is a little bit nervous to be at college for the first time, so reaching out and staying connected benefits everyone. Keeping in touch with your professors and attending office hours is also beneficial. It may seem a little scary, but I’ve found it is the best way to build connections and improve your skills.
