In my free time, I love to be on the water. Here in Bellingham, that means exploring the new places to go swimming and paddle boarding! And trust me, there are so many places to explore. I also like to explore local good and coffee around me!
What I like most about Western
I really enjoy the support for the community and professors. The professors here are so dedicated to supporting students. As I have taken more major classes, I have been able to develop those relationships and lean on them for support and advice when things are difficult.
Why I chose my major
Coming into freshmen year, I had no idea what I wanted to do! Thankfully Western gave me that time to explore different classes that I might be interested in majoring in. By taking General Undergraduate Requirements (GUR), I was able to rule out different topics I didn't like and found myself being pulled towards social sciences and the hard sciences. After taking an intro class to Public Health, I really got the advice from my professors and their experience to help determine if it was something that I wanted to do. I became passionate about health and creating a healthier community.
My advice for incoming or prospective students
Freshmen year can be hard! I felt the struggle of being away from home and balancing all the freshmen things, so be kind to yourself! Be sure that you are taking care of yourself. I found the best way for me to do well in classes was to relax some days, so I could go back to school happy and ready to take it on.
