Minors in Entrepreneurship & International Business
An experience or class at Western that made me go "Wow!"
On the very first day of class in my Entrepreneurship minor, people filed into the room conversing instead of finding a seat. Suddenly music started to play and everyone was dancing! I knew right away this class was different. The environment was family-like and the class focused on active learning.
What I like most about Western
I love our campus! Western is also an outdoor sculpture garden, so it's not hard to find a cool spot outside to study when it's sunny. The campus also overlooks the bay, and the sunset never gets old!
What I like most about Bellingham
Bellingham has something for everyone! The beautiful coast, three nearby lakes, endless outdoor activities, local shopping, an eventful downtown, and a Target! Most importantly, everything is so accessible. I am able to ride my bike everywhere.
My advice for incoming or prospective students
Try something new! Join the Acrobatic Yoga club or take a class at our Whatcom Lake Boathouse! Spring quarter I took a windsurfing class which was the best way to enjoy the sunshine during a busy quarter. Overall, there are over 200 different clubs at Western and tons of other opportunities to get out of your comfort zone.
Why I chose my major
Coming to Western, I chose to study through the Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies because the seminar-style classes appealed to my learning style. I also enjoyed the idea of being able to create my own concentration by combining all the things I love. After my Freshman year, despite my love for every single Fairhaven class I've ever taken I decided to switch majors. I am now majoring in Operations Management through the College of Business. Even though the majority of my classes have been through Fairhaven it didn't set me back in terms of graduating on time and I wouldn't have done it any other way! Currently, I am unsure of what I will be doing after I graduate but the possibilities are endless!
