How does Guaranteed Admission work?

Western guarantees admission to any transfer student who meets the eligibility requirements and completes a transferable associate’s degree at:

  • Everett Community College
  • North Seattle College
  • Olympic College
  • Peninsula College
  • Seattle Central College
  • Shoreline College
  • Skagit Valley College
  • South Seattle College
  • Whatcom Community College

Guaranteed Transfer Admission eligibility requirements:

  • Complete an Associate in Arts Direct Transfer Agreement (AA-DTA) or Associate in Science-Transfer (AS-T) degree before you enroll at Western.
  • Earn a cumulative transfer GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 for each of these terms: 1) the last quarter on your transcript when you submit your application for admission, and 2) the last quarter on your transcript before you enroll at Western.
  • Complete the online application for undergraduate admission, which includes sending official transcripts from every college/university attended. Please note the application priority date and deadline for your desired quarter of entry, although late applications are accepted as long as space is available.

Some offer direct admission and others have admission requirements—these may include a minimum GPA, specific prerequisite courses, or a separate application.   • Essay Optional: An essay isn’t required, but you’re welcome to respond to any of our prompts to share your story, interests, background or goals. Your essay can also be considered for certain scholarships.

Frequently Asked Questions

The application for admission will ask you to indicate whether you have earned a degree, or whether you plan to have one by the time you enroll at Western. You are eligible for admission if you earn your degree before enrolling at Western and meet all other eligibility requirements. 

Even if our deadlines have passed, we often still have space available. If you see your desired term (like fall or winter quarter) listed in the online application, you’re welcome to apply! Just be sure to send us your official transcript right away so we can review your application quickly and get you your official offer of admission without delay. 

While you may not be eligible for Guaranteed Transfer Admission, we still welcome your application! We encourage you to write an essay that helps us understand any challenges you have faced and will still give your application full consideration for admission.  

We're impressed by students who challenge themselves in high school, and participating in Running Start is a great way prepare for college-level work. Since Running Start students must meet first-year admission requirements, they are not eligible for guaranteed transfer admission. However, the majority of Running Start students who meet eligibility requirements are likely to be admitted. We encourage you to connect with your Admissions Counselor, who will be happy to walk you through the first-year application process and answer your questions.
